We are requesting the Public’s assistance in relation to an Arson on Lasalle Boulevard the night of February 22, 2022.
Around 11:45 p.m. on February 22, 2022, City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to a structure fire at 1212 Lasalle Boulevard. Upon extinguishing the fire, Firefighters determined the fire to be suspicious and contacted Police.

Just before 9:00 a.m. this morning, February 23, 2022, Detectives from our Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division located and arrested 45 year old Michael Grant in Port Stanley, Ontario on an Arrest Warrant for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Second Degree Murder
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition While Prohibited
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Unauthorized Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Over the Family Day long weekend, our Traffic Management Unit conducted three #AnywhereAnytime Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) spot checks. In total, 1,019 vehicles were stopped resulting in two drivers being charged with Operation While Impaired – one alcohol-related and one drug-related. Taxi Driver Charged With Impaired Operation - He Was Intaxicated

Around 10:00 a.m. on February 19, 2022, a Taxi Driver attended the Collision Reporting Centre in Azilda to report a rear-end collision involving the Taxi cab.
While the vehicle was parked in the parking lot of the Collision Reporting Centre, off-duty Officers were arriving at work at the Police Community Response Centre when they detected a strong odour of Cannabis coming from the Taxi cab. Once again, the annual Sudbury Polar Plunge will be virtual.
In preparation for the virtual plunges, we’re asking Greater Sudbury youth to participate in our 2022 Polar Plunge contest: a poster contest for elementary school students and a photo contest for secondary school students.
Poster ContestFor students in Grades 1 to 6
Guidelines- Poster must be drawn on 8 1/2” x 11” white paper horizontally
- Each poster must portray “Plungee” the polar bear mascot (please see the image below as an example)
