2nd annual National Ribbon Skirt Day

Today marks the second annual National Ribbon Skirt Day. January 4th provides all people living in Canada with an opportunity to recognize and honour the history, culture, identity and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis in Canada. 

In May 2023, the Greater Sudbury Police Service unveiled the ribbon skirt that we have adopted into our Number One Dress Uniform.

Incident on Keith Avenue - Special Investigations Unit investigating incident

Just before 10:40 a.m. this morning, January 2, 2024, officers were dispatched to a residence on Keith Avenue in relation to an Intimate Partner Violence incident. 

When officers arrived on scene, they made entry into the residence to ensure the safety of those involved in the incident.

Death Investigation – Onwatin Lake Hanmer

Shortly after 10:45 a.m. this morning, December 31, 2023, a 60-year-old community member was on the ice of Onwatin Lake when witnesses saw the individual go through the ice. 

People on scene immediately attempted to provide assistance and contacted emergency responders. A coordinated response involving Police, City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services and City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services were dispatched to the area resulting in the recovery of the individual who was unconscious.

Requesting assistance to locate 30 y/o Chase Gour-Boyd and two ppl involved in assault on Durham St

UPDATE
On December 4, 2024, 30-year-old Chase Gour-Boyd was arrested on the two arrest warrants for various charges including assault, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement in relation to two separate incidents that occurred on December 1, 2023.

We are still requesting assistance to identify two individuals involved in one of the assault. Images of the two parties are attached.

Residential Fire on Park Avenue in Hanmer

Around 3:55 a.m. on December 23, 2023, members of the City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services and the Greater Sudbury Police Service were dispatched to an address on Park Avenue in Hanmer in relation to an explosion and residential fire.

The explosion and subsequent fire affected three houses in the area. The fire was extinguished by firefighters.
