Marine Unit Patrols

On Friday July 24th and Saturday July 25th, our Marine Unit Officers patrolled the areas of Vermillion Lake / River, Windy Lake, and Fairbanks Lake.

A total of 49 vessels were stopped for compliance checks. In total, Officers made contact with 135 community members.

Officers were pleased to find that no alcohol or drugs were found on board any of the vessels.

51 year old Man Charged with First Degree Murder After Shooting in Hanmer

Around 7:00 p.m. last night, Sunday, July 12, 2020, we received a call regarding a Weapons Complaint outside of a residence on Rita Street in Hanmer. Information received was that a man had attended a social gathering at the residence with a gun and had shot another man multiple times after the two had gotten into an altercation.

Other individuals at the residence were able to get the gun away from the man prior to Police arrival.

Update – Second Man Arrested – Serious Assault on Ferndale Avenue, Sudbury

UPDATE 2:

On July 12, 2020 the Greater Sudbury Police Service learned that the 45 year old man who was the victim of this assault had succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

As a result, the charge against the 48 year old man will be upgraded from Attempted Murder to Second Degree Murder. The man remains in custody.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the man. His name will not be released out of respect for the family’s wishes. We ask that you respect their request for privacy...

Incident Resolved Peacefully: Barricaded Man on Beatty Street

At 8:25 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020, we received a call regarding a disturbance at a residence on Beatty Street in Sudbury involving a dispute.

 

Patrol Officers arrived on scene where it was determined that a man was armed with a weapon. The man, in crisis, barricaded himself inside the residence. Beatty Street and the surrounding area were immediately contained by Police to ensure public safety.
