Motor Vehicle Collision – 6-year old Child Struck by Motor Vehicle on Second Avenue

On April 25th, 2022 at 7:20 p.m., we received a call in relation to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Second Avenue, northbound between Camelot and Kenwood Street in Greater Sudbury. Information received was that a 6-year old girl had been struck by a motor vehicle. City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services arrived on scene to medically assess the girl, who was in stable condition and had suffered non-life threatening injuries. 50 year old Man Arrested and Charged with Personating Peace Officer

We received several complaints in relation to community members being stopped on local roadways by a man driving a replica police vehicle with flashing lights activated.

Through the investigation into these incidents, members of our Traffic Management Unit identified the driver believed to be responsible. As part of the ongoing investigation, Officers applied for and were granted a Criminal Code Search Warrant for a residential property in Lively.

Hate-bias Incident Involving Mischief at Local Church on Notre Dame Avenue

On Monday, April 11, 2022, we received a call regarding a hate-bias incident involving a Mischief at a local church on Notre Dame Avenue.

Information provided was that the symbol/letter “z” had been spray painted on multiple signs at the church. It is believed that the incident took place somewhere between 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8 and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022

Missing Person 25 year old Thomas Rogers Located Deceased

UPDATE

Around 5:00 p.m. on April 10, 2022, a community member located a deceased man in a wooded area off of Fairbanks Lake Road.

Members of our Patrol Operations and Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division attended the scene along with members of our Forensics Unit.

It has been confirmed that the deceased man is 25 year old Thomas Rogers. We are working in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office in relation to his death. At this time, no foul play is suspected.
