Fatal Collision Involving a Motorcycle in Hanmer

Around 9:10 p.m. on August 20, 2022, GSPS received a call regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck at the intersection of Cote Boulevard at Chenier Street in Hanmer.
Members of our Traffic Management Unit, Rural Community Response Unit, and Patrol Operations attended the scene. The driver of the motorcycle had sustained life-threating injuries. City of Greater Sudbury Paramedics began life saving measures on the young man who was transported to hospital....

Shortly after 11:35 p.m. last night, August 18, 2022, we received two Weapons complaints involving the same vehicle and the same individuals.
Information provided was that a dark-coloured SUV was being driven in the area of Walnut Street and Lorne Street when one of the individuals inside the vehicle used a pellet gun to shoot a man walking in the area. Requesting Assistance to Locate Owners of Items Recovered During Search Warrant

We are requesting the Public’s assistance in order to locate the rightful owner(s) of items that were recovered during a Search Warrant as some of the items that Officers seized have not yet been reported stolen to Police. Businesses and educational institutions are asked to take inventory of items in order to determine whether or not equipment is missing. The following items were recovered:

Greater Sudbury Overall Crime Severity Index Down 4.3 Percent

Every year, Statistics Canada issues a Crime Severity Index (CSI) report for Census Metropolitan Areas across Canada. The CSI is a measure of Police-reported crime that reflects the seriousness of offences by assigning a weighted value to crime types with a higher value being given to more serious crimes.
For the first time since 2015, the overall CSI in Greater Sudbury is down. Between 2020 and 2021, Canada’s total crime rate decreased by 0.3% whereas Greater Sudbury’s crime rate decreased by 4.3%....
25 year old Man Arrested in Toronto and Charged in Relation to Bomb Threat at Court House

At 10:30 a.m. on August 5, 2022, our 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centre received a phone call regarding a Bomb Threat at Sudbury Court House on Elm Street in Greater Sudbury. Information provided was that a bomb had been left inside the Court House and that it was set to explode.
Officers attended the area and set up containment of the building while additional Officers assisted with evacuating the Court House.
