During Police Week, the Greater Sudbury Police Service hosted its annual Community and Police Awards Gala at the Caruso Club.

The Community and Police Awards Gala provides us with the opportunity to honour police service members, community organizations and community members who have demonstrated commitment and leadership and/or assisted in the enhancement of community safety and wellbeing within the past year.

The Community and Police Awards Gala raises funds for Chief's Youth Initiative Fund. All funds raised are reinvested in Greater Sudbury youth by providing monetary support to activities, initiatives and events that are led by the Greater Sudbury Police Service and community partners. Our goal is to build relationships with and provide opportunities for our youth today for a brighter tomorrow.

The following awards were presented:

  • Meritorious Action Award – Sgt. Dana Kiviaho
  • Police Assistance Award – Jeb Brown, North Shore Search & Rescue
  • Teamwork Commendation Award – Renee Sweeney Homicide Investigative Team
  • Police-Community Leader Award – Sudbury Secondary School Value Vault
  • Police-Community Partnership Award – Julie and Frank Ozawagosh
  • Sergeant Richard McDonald Memorial Award – Robin Wemigwans
  • Constable Joseph MacDonald Memorial Award – Emilia Luczak
  • Nicole Belair Service Above-Self Award – Sarah Stagg
  • Sergeant Todd Lefebvre Community Champion Memorial Award – Detective Sgt. Steve Train
