We are your police service and we want to effectively and efficiently serve you better.

If you have a complaint about the conduct of a Police Officer or about the services or policies of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, you may file a formal complaint by contacting the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA).

Although members of the public always have the right to make a complaint directly LECA, members of the public are also welcome to speak to the on-duty staff sergeant to discuss their concerns. To speak to the on-duty staff sergeant please call 705-675-9171 extension 2609. 

Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA) is responsible for receiving, managing and overseeing public complaints about misconduct of the following:

  1. All municipal, regional, and provincial (OPP) police officers;
  2. Special Constables employed by the Niagara Parks Commission;
  3. Peace Officers in the Legislative Protective Service; and
  4. First Nations police officers if the police service opts into the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA).

As an independent civilian oversight agency, LECA ensures all public complaints against the police are dealt with in a manner that is transparent, effective and fair.

All complaints made about police officers go to the LECA. The LECA will review the complaint and decide how to proceed. The police service in question, another police service or the LECA themselves may investigate the complaint. The outcomes of all complaints are reviewed by the LECA.
