Just before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received a call for service in relation to a Weapons complaint on Elm St at Elgin St. Information provided was that an individual had been attacked with bear spray and stabbed. The suspect fled the scene prior to Police arrival.
Upon arrival, Officers located the victim who had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The individual was transported to the hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services where they remain in stable condition.
Through the investigation, Police were able to positively identify the suspect. His name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
The 22-year old man of Greater Sudbury has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Just after 2:30 p.m. on August 20th, 2024, he attended Greater Sudbury Police Service headquarters to surrender to the charges.
He will attend court on September 18th, 2024, to answer to the charges.
