Just before 3:40 a.m. on January 5, 2025, an officer was driving Eastbound on the Kingsway when they observed a vehicle traveling Westbound at a high speed. The radar in the marked police cruiser clocked the vehicle traveling over 150 km/h in a posted 50km/h zone.
The officer activated the emergency lights and sirens of the cruiser to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle slowed down, however did not stop and continued to drive Westbound on the Kingsway, turning onto Lloyd Street and then onto Pearl Street where the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The driver then exited the vehicle and attempted to run from the officer. The officer was able to catch the individual who then resisted arrest.
Once arrested, the officer detected signs of impairment. The individual could not provide ownership or insurance for the vehicle. The officer ran the individual through police-related databases and found that the individual was also bound by two Driver’s Licence suspensions. The individual was transported to police headquarters where they refused to provide a breath sample to a Qualified Breath Technician.
