The Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) Unit was notified by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.) National Child Exploitation Centre in Ottawa after The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children Centre in the United States identified an IP address located in Greater Sudbury uploading and accessing Child Pornography.
On Wednesday, February 26, 2020 members of the I.C.E. Unit and the Computer Forensics Unit with assistance from members of the Tactical Unit executed a Search Warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury resulting in the arrest of a 25 year old man and the seizure of electronic devices used to access the child pornography.
The man has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences;
- Distribution of Child Pornography
- Possession of Child Pornography x2
- Access - Child Pornography
- Breach of Prohibition Order – having contact with persons under the age of 16
- Breach of Prohibition Order x2 – having access to internet
The man was held in Police custody and he will attend Bail Court today, Thursday, February 27, 2020 to answer to the charges. His name will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victims.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet which has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
