At 10:30 a.m. on August 5, 2022, our 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centre received a phone call regarding a Bomb Threat at Sudbury Court House on Elm Street in Greater Sudbury. Information provided was that a bomb had been left inside the Court House and that it was set to explode.
Officers attended the area and set up containment of the building while additional Officers assisted with evacuating the Court House.
Members of our Emergency Response Unit, Courts Branch and Patrol Operations completed a thorough search of the building and they did not locate any suspicious packages or explosive devices.
At the conclusion of the search, individuals were permitted to return to the building and Court resumed for the day.
Through the ongoing investigation, Detectives in the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division identified the man believed to be responsible.
On August 6, 2022, 25 year old Gamile Hylton was located and arrested by members of the Toronto Police Service. He was transported to Greater Sudbury to attend Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court on August 7, 2022 in order to answer to the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- False Message
- Public Mischief
- Uttering Threats
- Mischief Under $5000
- Harassing Phone Calls
After attending WASH Court, he was remanded into custody and he will appear in Bail Court today, August 8, 2022.
Upon his return to Greater Sudbury, Gamile Hylton was also arrested on an outstanding Arrest Warrant for Criminal Harassment.
