Just after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16th, 2021, we received a call in relation to an Unknown Trouble at a residence on Dublin Street in Greater Sudbury. Information provided from the caller was that an individual had ran out of the residence screaming that someone was hurt and that an ambulance was required. Prior to this, the caller had witnessed a different man, with a slim build, fleeing from the residence.
Police and Paramedic Services arrived on scene minutes later. Upon arrival, a woman was located at the bottom of the stairs inside the residence, in critical condition. The woman was immediately attended to by Paramedics and transported to HSN with life-threatening injuries. The 39-year old woman remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.
At approximately 2:19 a.m., we received additional calls for service from multiple residents on Lasalle Blvd reporting that an unknown man, covered in blood, was banging on their windows and doors and smashing their windows. One resident, a 68-year old man, was assaulted by the unknown man. The 68-year old man sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.
At 2:26 a.m., Police located the man in a parking lot of an establishment on Lasalle Blvd. The man was in a state of psychosis and was transported to HSN for medical treatment. Based on the investigation, it was determined that the 32-year old man was responsible for the violent attack of the 39-year old woman on Dublin Street and that the two were known to each other.
Detectives of our Criminal Investigations Division also conducted a search of the residence on Dublin. As a result of the Search Warrant, the following items and drugs were seized:
- Two stun batons
- Ammunition
- Various knives
- 48 marijuana plants
As a result of the above incidents, the 32-year old man has been charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Failure to Comply with Release Order
He was also charged with Cultivate, Propagate or Harvest More than Four Cannabis Plants under the Cannabis Act.
The man has since been remanded into custody and will attend Court on October 20th, 2021 to answer to the charges. His name will not be released at this time to protect the identity of the 39-year old woman.
