Around 3:05 p.m. on December 11, 2024, officers were dispatched to an Intimate Partner Violence-related assault in progress on Notre Dame Avenue in Hanmer. Information provided was that a community member had attended a neighbour’s residence to call police as their partner had been keeping them confined to their residence and had assaulted them multiple times.

Officers set-up containment of the residence as it was believed that the man responsible was inside while Greater Sudbury Paramedics attended the neighbour’s to provide medical attention to the community member. The community member was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) including a Crisis Negotiator attended the scene and around 6:30 p.m. the man exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
