ARRESTED: 33-Year Old Steven Derkacz has been located and arrested by the GSPS. We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is appealing to the public to assist in locating 33-year old Steven Derkacz, who has been identified as the man responsible for three robberies and an assault in Hanmer.

Steven is described as a white male, 5’8” tall and approximately 160 lbs. Steven Derkacz

Just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th, 2023, GSPS received a call regarding a Robbery that had just taken place at a convenience store on Cote Blvd in Hanmer. Information provided was that a lone man had entered the establishment, approached the store employee and demanded cash while displaying a knife. The man made off with approximately $500 in cash and fled on foot prior to Police arrival. No one was injured during this interaction.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes to collect video surveillance footage and to set up containment in order to conduct a K9 track; however, the man was not located during the track.

Just after 11:20 a.m. on Monday, February 20th, 2023, GSPS received a call regarding a Robbery that had just taken place at the same convenience store on Cote Blvd in Hanmer. Information provided was that a lone man had entered the establishment, approached the store employee and demanded cash and cigarettes while displaying a knife. The man made off with approximately $250 in cash and several cartons of cigarettes.

While this incident was occurring, two patrons had arrived in a pick-up truck, unaware of what was happening inside the store. While one of the patrons entered the store, the suspect approached the truck, displayed a knife and demanded the driver to exit the vehicle. A struggle ensued, resulting in the victim sustaining minor injuries that were later treated by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services. The victim exited their truck, and the suspect took possession of the truck, driving Eastbound on Cote Blvd.

Police arrived within minutes to set up containment of the area and ensure the victims’ safety and well-being. Police collected video surveillance footage and canvassed the area for further information.

The truck was later recovered by Police at a residence on Roy Avenue in Hanmer and held for a forensic identification examination.

Through the ongoing investigations, the suspect in the above-mentioned incidents has been identified by GSPS Integrated Crime Section as 33-year old Steven Derkacz of Greater Sudbury.

Steven Derkacz is wanted on an outstanding Arrest Warrant for:

  • Robbery with a Weapon X3
  • Carry Concealed Weapon X2
  • Weapons Dangerous X3
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm
  • Drive while Disqualified
  • Drive while Suspended
