Calling all Sudbury area organizations, big or small!

This year, the Greater Sudbury Police Service is hosting its 3rd annual Truth and Reconciliation Relay.

The Truth and Reconciliation Relay is a GSPS initiative aimed at honouring the history of Indigenous peoples, promoting healing and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous communities.

The relay consists of a three-part challenge.

  • Part one requires individuals to watch a video on the Truth and Reconciliation Relay website to deepen their understanding of Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Part two requires participants to review the Calls to Action on the website and to choose one that speaks to them.
  • Part three consists of logging kilometres by walking, running, swimming, biking or paddling from September 1-24, 2024. While participants log kilometres, it allows opportunities to reflect on their chosen Call to Action.

In 2023, GSPS hosted the 2nd annual Truth & Reconciliation Relay in collaboration with community partners with a goal of reaching 150,000 kilometres combined, representing the estimated number of children who attended Residential School.

The 2nd annual Truth & Reconciliation Relay marked a significant step forward, with 40 organizations participating and over 1,075 participants, pledging 203,437 kms.

Together, everyone completed a total of 393,493 kms.

This year, we are striving to reach 150,000 kilometres once again and are hoping your organization will join us!

The Truth & Reconciliation Relay also has a Scavenger Hunt, where rocks painted with the Seven Grandfather teachings will be hidden across seven Rainbow Routes trails around the city. The rocks will be coded with three words from the “What3Words” location app.

Prize categories for this year include:

  • The organization with the most kilometres
  • Top seven individual participants with the highest kilometres
  • Top three organizations with the most participants
  • Top four organizations with the highest percentage of employee participation
  • There are also seven prizes for the Scavenger Hunt draw

We are calling upon any organization that would like to participate. By coming together, we strive to create meaningful change and to contribute to a more just and inclusive society.
