We received several complaints in relation to community members being stopped on local roadways by a man driving a replica police vehicle with flashing lights activated.
Through the investigation into these incidents, members of our Traffic Management Unit identified the driver believed to be responsible. As part of the ongoing investigation, Officers applied for and were granted a Criminal Code Search Warrant for a residential property in Lively.
On 12 April 2022, Members of our Traffic Management Unit, Emergency Response Unit, and Computer Forensic Unit executed the Search Warrant at a residence on David Street.
As a result of the Search Warrant, Officers located and seized two Dodge Charger vehicles believed to be used in the commission of the offences. The resident, 50 year old, Robert Restiaux was arrested and charged with two counts of Personating Peace Officer under the Criminal Code of Canada. He appeared in Bail Court today, April 13, 2022, to answer to the charges.
The investigation into these incidents is ongoing and we encourage anyone who believes that they were stopped by a man operating a similar type vehicle without proper Police identification to contact our Traffic Management Unit at 705-675-9171 extension 2421.
Please note that our Officers will have identifiable Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) attire including shoulder flashes and use of force equipment. A plainclothes Officer (not in uniform) will have a badge that is readily available on a belt around their waist or on a chain around their neck. We remind community members that if you are ever concerned or unsure, you have the right to ask for Police identification
