Expect to see us out conducting random R.I.D.E. checks anywhere, at any time. Although there is a province-wide stay-at-home order in effect, as long as there are motorists on our roadways, we'll be out there making sure they are driving sober. We can’t be EVERYwhere ALL the time, but we can certainly be ANYwhere at ANY time.

We began our "Anywhere Anytime R.I.D.E." campaign on Monday, January 11th, 2021.

On Monday and Tuesday, at two separate locations and within just a few hours each day, our Traffic Management Unit checked 744 vehicles in Greater Sudbury.

Of those 744 vehicles:

  • A 62-year old man was stopped and failed an Approved Screening Device (ASD) test at roadside and was arrested. He subsequently provided samples over 80 mgs and was charged with Impaired Operation and Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80+.
  • A 47-year old man was caught operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device as required as a condition of his driver’s licence. The man was charged with Operation while Prohibited (Criminal Code) and driving a vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock device (Highway Traffic Act).
  • A 45-year old man was stopped and an investigation revealed that he was both a prohibited driver under the Criminal Code and also a suspended driver under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was also being operated without insurance and with plates not authorized for that vehicle. The vehicle was further found to be unsafe to be operated on the roadway. The man was charged accordingly.

In total, Officers laid one Impaired Driving charge, one 80+ Blood Alcohol Concentration charge, one 90-day vehicle suspension, four Criminal Code offences and 19 Highway Traffic Act offences.

We have zero tolerance for impaired driving in this community. If you witness someone driving while impaired, call 911. Again, expect to see us Anywhere, Anytime. #AnywhereAnytimeRIDE
