The Greater Sudbury Police Service remains committed to holding offenders accountable by focusing resources on those who pose an elevated risk to the safety, security and wellness of Greater Sudbury.

As part of our Community Safety and Well-being Plan, members of our Central Community Response Unit, Emergency Response Unit, Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Operations and Police Community Response Centre conducted a Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Initiative from December 9-14, 2024.

This initiative focused on violent and high-risk offenders who are currently released on court-imposed conditions and those who are wanted on outstanding arrest warrants for breaching Bail.

Over the course of the week, officers conducted 68 compliance checks and found that 69% of individuals were complying with the court-ordered conditions. In relation to the individuals found not to be compliant, officers submitted six warrant requests and laid 10 charges.

During the same time period, officers executed 65 arrest warrants where 34 individuals were held for Bail through the judicial system. 32 of the arrest warrants executed were Bench Warrants issued by a Justice of the Peace as the individuals had failed to attend court.

We are dedicated to prevention and risk intervention through the Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Program, with a strong focus on violent and high-risk offenders. This program plays a critical role in preventing crime, victimization, and re-victimization by holding offenders accountable for their actions. We will continue to allocate resources to ensure strict adherence to court-ordered conditions and the prompt execution of arrest warrants for those breaching judicial orders. This proactive approach underscores the importance of accountability in reducing risks to our community.

The Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Program is funded by the Government of Ontario.
