When a crime occurs, police officers often spend hours, if not days, locating video footage to assist in the investigation.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service is pleased to announce a partnership with CAMSafe, a web-based, voluntary registry of CCTV and security cameras, to help solve crime more efficiently.
CAMSafe is a program aimed at creating a database of private security cameras within communities as a resource for police when investigating offences.
This program was developed to act as a simple, yet effective way of leveraging technology and encourages residents and business owners to help protect their communities and solve crime.
CAMSafe is a web-based, volunteer registry for anyone who owns security cameras, CCTV systems or doorbell cams in the province of Ontario. CAMsafe is an effective tool that saves officers precious time when conducting investigations.
If a crime takes place at a residence or business, the investigating police officer can log into the CAMSafe database and search a geographic area to view who has registered their cameras. Only police personnel have access to the database and officers cannot remotely access your camera. The officer, using the contact information provided, would connect with the property owner and request the camera footage to assist with the police investigation, however there is no obligation to share the footage.
We encourage community members and business owners to register with CAMsafe and help protect our community as community safety and well-being is a shared commitment.
