Chief Sara Cunningham was named Chief in September of this year, and her transition was formally acknowledged on Tuesday with a Change of Command and Swearing-in ceremony at the Caruso Club.
Chief Cunningham has dedicated over 26 years to the Greater Sudbury Police Service as a police officer. She has served with pride, distinction and excellence, and brings vast experience to the role. She is an engaging leader, having had responsibility in many areas of the police service involving varied operational and administrative assignments.
In her most recent assignment as Deputy Chief of Administration, she directed the divisions of Human Resources and Professional Development, Finance, Communication and Information Technology and Information Management.
At Tuesday’s ceremony, Retired Chief Paul Pedersen performed a transfer of the sword, to symbolize the change of command. The transfer of the sword is significant in the history, traditions and accomplishments of the police service. With the transfer of the sword goes the transfer of responsibility for the accomplishment and welfare of the police service members.
Thank you to Justice Susan Stothart on performing the official swearing-in.
Thank you to all who joined us in support of this momentous occasion.
