UPDATE 2

Detectives of our Criminal Investigations Division continue to investigate the Sudden Death that occurred in Bell Park on July 31st, 2024.

Police have confirmed the identity of the individual who was located deceased as 36-year old Pat Forgues. With the family’s permission, the Greater Sudbury Police Service is releasing his name in order to obtain additional information to progress the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have had interactions with Pat Forgues on the evening of July 30th, 2024, to please come forward. Police are also asking anyone who was present at Bell Park in the early morning hours of July 31st, 2024, to come forward.

Anyone with information relating to this matter is asked to call the Greater Sudbury Police Service at 705-675-9171.

Our deepest condolences and thoughts remain with the family of the deceased during this difficult time.

UPDATE 1

Officers are now clear of Bell Park. Access to Bell Park is no longer restricted. There is no threat to Public Safety.

A post-mortem will be conducted on August 2, 2024 to assist in determining the cause of death and to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

ORIGINAL

Shortly after 6:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of the large gazebo, Northeast of the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park in relation to an Ambulance Assistance. Information provided was that Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services were on scene for an individual who required medical attention. Upon arrival, paramedics determined that the individual was deceased.

The identity of the individual is currently unknown.   

Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division are working in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office. A post-mortem will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office to assist in determining the individual’s identity and the cause of death.

Access to Bell Park will be restricted while officers are on scene investigating. The Grace Hartman Amphitheatre and the Splash N Go Adventure Park on Ramsey Lake are accessible from the York Street at Paris Street parking lots and from Science North. The Bell Park main beach is accessible from the Elizabeth Street parking lot.
