This summer, Detectives from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team began an investigation into individuals believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury.
Shortly before 6:00 a.m. on October 10, 2024, Detectives with the assistance of our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) executed a search warrant on Frood Road. Two people from Greater Sudbury, a 27-year-old, woman and a 47-year-old, man and a 26-year-old, man from Southern Ontario were arrested for drug charges at the residence.
Detectives conducted a search of the residence and located approximately 43 grams of cocaine, 81 grams of crack cocaine, 13 grams of fentanyl, 13 oxycodone pills, and approximately $1,800 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $14,000.
As a result of the investigation, 26-year-old, Nuzsikeil Gonez, 27-year-old, Chantal Morrison and the 47-year-old, man have been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code of Canada:
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking - Fentanyl
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Nuzsikeil Gonez and Chantal Morrison attended Bail Court on October 10, 2024, to answer to the charges. The 47-year-old was released on an appearance notice with a court date of November 6, 2024. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
