At the beginning of June, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) began a Drug Trafficking Investigation into a community member believed to be dealing Fentanyl and Cocaine. It was believed that the drugs were being supplied by a person from Southern Ontario.
As part of the investigation, Detectives from our DEU applied for and were granted a Search Warrant for an address on St. Anne’s Road in Greater Sudbury. Upon executing the Search Warrant on June 7, 2022, Detectives located and seized Fentanyl, Cocaine and Oxy-codone pills with an estimated street value of $14,8000, as well as, a large quantity of cash.
As a result of the Search Warrant, 35 year old Michael Lewis from Toronto was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (cash)
Through the ongoing investigation, two local Drug Traffickers were identified. Both persons were arrested on Beatty Street at Alder Street on June 13, 2022. The two individuals were found to be in possession of Fentanyl, Cocaine and Crystal Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $18,500, as well as, a large quantity of cash.
43 year old Jason Laro of Sudbury has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (cash)
29 year old Stephanie Labelle of Sudbury has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine
Both individuals were held in custody in order to attend Bail Court on June 14, 2022.
The Drug Enforcement Unit of the Integrated Crime Team will continue to focus its efforts on major crime operations that pose a direct and elevated threat to the safety, security and wellness of our community. The Integrated Crime Team aims to identify and disrupt organized crime in Greater Sudbury through innovative technology, collaborative partnerships and traditional Police work resulting in the arrests of those involved, holding them accountable for their criminal activities and the seizure of illegal drugs, prohibited firearms and proceeds of crime.
