This past weekend, our Traffic Management Unit conducted two #AnywhereAnytimeRIDE spot checks in Greater Sudbury to ensure driver sobriety.
In total, Officers stopped and checked 705 vehicles. Of those 705 drivers, two were found to be impaired by alcohol after providing breath samples two and a half times over the legal limit. Both drivers were charged with Operation while Impaired and will appear in criminal court in January to answer to the charges. Their vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days and their drivers licences were suspended for 90 days.
A third driver was found to be driving a rental vehicle while under suspension for failing to complete remedial measures from a prior Impaired charge. The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
An additional four Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were performed for drug impairment. Five Highway Traffic Act offence notices were issued.
We wish to thank Action Sudbury for sponsoring our R.I.D.E. check on Friday and Public Health Sudbury for sponsoring our R.I.D.E. check on Saturday.
This Festive Season, we will be out conducting an increased number of R.I.D.E. checks throughout the city. You should expect us out anywhere at any time!
- Please plan ahead, have a designated driver, stay the night, call a taxi or use public transit because your choice to drive impaired doesn’t affect just you, it affects our entire community.
- We continue to urge community members to call 9-1-1 when you see an impaired driver and to provide as much information as possible regarding the make, model and licence plate of the vehicle, as well as the direction of travel.
Thank you to all community members who make the responsible choice to drive sober. We truly appreciate you.
