Just before 4:00 a.m. on October 13th, 2022, City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to a structure fire at a campground office building on 2550 Richard Lake Road in Greater Sudbury. Upon extinguishing the fire, Firefighters determined it to be suspicious and contacted Police at approximately 5:45 a.m. Officers from our Patrol Operations and Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division and Forensics Unit attended the scene.
Upon investigation, the fire was deemed to be a result of Arson. Simultaneously, while investigating an unrelated matter, Ontario Provincial Police Officers came into contact with a man in the area of Hwy 69 at Old Wanup Rd who was in possession of items belonging to the Richard Lake Campground office building. The OPP contacted GSPS immediately.

As a result of the fire, there we no injuries reported; however, the structure did sustain significant destruction resulting in approximately $87,000 - $100,000 in damages.
