Our 911 Emergency Communications Centre (ECC) is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They answer 911 and non-emergency calls while dispatching Police and Fire Services. Not only do our Communicators and Dispatchers answer 911 in an Emergency, but they also ensure the safety of our Officers who are responding to active and evolving situations.

This National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 10-16, 2022, we thank our Communicators and Dispatchers for their vital service. You are the unseen heroes - thank you for ensuring the safety of our Frontline Officers and community members.

Meet Brianne Bradley, Acting Supervisor of the 911 ECC, B Group: woman sitting at desk looking at monitor

“The 9-1-1 ECC Communicators here at GSPS are some of the most amazing people with whom I’ve had the honour of working. Each and every person here has dedicated their time to serving their community to the best of their abilities. They come together as a team during high intensity calls, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. They don’t stop for holidays or weather events.

I will always be in awe of the work they do, most often in the background. While the officers or the firefighters are on the way to a call for service, my coworkers are gathering all of the information they can from callers, assigning resources and making phone calls to other agencies. It is hectic, ever changing and often stressful, but watching the 9-1-1 ECC during a big event is awe inspiring. Everyone comes together and works as one cohesive unit to ensure the safety of the public and first responders.

If anyone is looking to get into this career, I would say that it is a fulfilling and fantastic career. You will work with a phenomenal team, and you will feel like you’ve made a difference more often than not. It is not for the faint of heart, and can be very difficult, but it is more than a job, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
