Just after 9:50 p.m. on March 11, 2025, officers were dispatched to an establishment on Algonquin Road in relation to an alleged impaired. Information provided was that there was an occupied vehicle running in the parking lot, however there were concerns about the driver’s sobriety to be operating the vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle with its interior lights on and the engine running. The driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel. Upon speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of impairment. Officer conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test on the driver, who performed poorly. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation.

Incident to arrest, officers searched the individual and the vehicle locating 1,100 grams of Fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging materials, a revolver and knives, as well as, $1,400 in cash. The estimated value of the drugs seized is $44,000.

The driver was transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted a Drug Recognition Evaluation confirming that the individual was impaired by drugs.

As a result of the investigation, the 41-year-old, man has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Operation While Impaired
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

He was transported to hospital to receive medical treatment for an unrelated matter; however he remains in police custody. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
