Officers charge four drivers with Impaired Driving on Friday night
Community members should expect to see our officers conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks #AnywhereAnytime.
On Friday night, November 10, 2023, members of our Traffic Management Unit with assistance from Patrol Operations conducted R.I.D.E. checks on Frood Road, Lorne Street, Regent Street and in the downtown core.
As a result of the R.I.D.E. checks, officers charged three drivers with impaired driving.
A 25-year-old driver was stopped on Lorne Street and displayed signs of impairment. A roadside sobriety test was completed and the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation.
A Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed and the driver was deemed to be impaired by drugs.
The driver was charged with Operation While Impaired.
A 30-year-old driver was stopped on Lorne Street and displayed signs of impairment and the smell of cannabis was detected in the vehicle.
A roadside sobriety test was completed and the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation.
A Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed and the driver was deemed to be impaired by drugs.
The driver was charged with Operation While Impaired.
A 19-year-old Novice driver, being a class G2 licence holder, was stopped on the Kingsway for speeding 87 km/h in the posted 50 km/h zone.
The smell of alcoholic was detected on the driver's breath and after failing a roadside alcohol screener, the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation.
Breath Testing revealed the driver's Blood Alcohol Concertation was over 80mg of alcohol in 100mL of blood.
The driver was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol, Operation While Impaired – B.A.C. Above 80mg in 100mL of Blood, Novice Driver Presence of Alcohol, Young Driver Presence of Alcohol and Speeding.
A fourth driver was charged with Impaired Driving after officers were dispatched to a collision.
A 27-year-old driver struck a parked vehicle while leaving a residence.
Police located the vehicle being driven a short distance away.
The driver failed the roadside screening test and subsequently provided additional breath samples on the Intoxilyzer that registered a Blood Alcohol Concertation over 80mg of alcohol in 100mL of blood.
The driver was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol, Operation While Impaired – B.A.C. Above 80mg in 100mL of Blood.
There is no excuse for impaired driving. Impaired is impaired, whether it be by alcohol or by drug.
