On March 16, 2025, officers were dispatched to a stolen motor vehicle complaint on Barrydowne Road. Information provided was that the vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of an establishment while the owner was inside.

Officers determined that the vehicle was equipped with a tracking device and contacted the service provider to determine the current location of the vehicle. Upon speaking with the service provider, officers were informed that the vehicle was in Southern Ontario and had been there for approximately two weeks.

Based on the investigation, it is believed that the owner was aware of the location of the vehicle and was attempting to commit insurance fraud. Officers notified the insurance provider of the false claim.

On March 17, 2025, the 21-year-old, man was arrested and charged with Public Mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada for filing a false police report. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of April 16, 2025. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
