Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on April 10, 2025, officers were dispatched to a serious collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of MR 35 and Monte Principale in Azilda.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services, Paramedic Services and Police Service attended the collision. Through the investigation, it has been determined that an SUV traveling westbound on MR 35 turning onto Monte Principale collided with an SUV traveling eastbound on MR 35.

The driver of the westbound SUV, a 33-year-old, man was not injured. The driver of the eastbound SUV, a 28-year-old, woman was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the eastbound SUV, an 81-year-old, woman was transported to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The Integrated Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the collision and the investigation is ongoing. MR 35 was closed for several hours to complete the on-scene investigation.
