On July 1, 2024, Detectives from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation regarding an individual believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in Greater Sudbury. Officers from patrol operations, assisted by DEU arrested an individual on Lorne Street for breaching a court-issued release order. The individual was already facing drug charges and was on a release order while awaiting a court date.
Upon arresting the individual, officers conducted a search and located approximately 50 grams of cocaine, 58 grams of fentanyl, a conducted energy weapon, a collapsible baton, and approximately $410 in cash. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $10,000.
As a result of the investigation, the 36-year-old man, has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code of Canada:
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking - Fentanyl
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon x2
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Breach of release order
- Possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order x2
The individual was held in police custody overnight and will attend Bail Court today, July 2, 2024, to answer to the charges. The individual’s name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
