Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on December 23, 2024, an officer was conducting a general patrol in the area of Notre Dame Avenue when the officer witnessed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and King Street to address the Highway Traffic Act violations of the driver.

While speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver was operating the vehicle without a valid Driver’s Licence. The officer also located an open bottle of alcohol within the driver’s reach. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and was placed under arrest by officers.

Upon placing the driver under arrest, officers searched the individual locating a large sum of cash and over 280 grams of was believed to be Cocaine. Officers then searched the vehicle incident to the arrest and located additional illicit drugs believed to be magic mushrooms, drug packaging materials and cash, as well as multiple knives. In total officers seized over $15,000.

The driver, a 54-year-old, man was charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), the Highway Traffic Act and the Liquor Licence Act;

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order x2
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance
  • Careless Driving
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Operate Motor Vehicle No Insurance
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor

He was held in custody overnight and appeared in Bail Court on December 24, 2024, to answer to the charges. His name is not being released to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The passenger, a 49-year-old, man was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released with a court date of January 22, 2025. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
