In preparation for the virtual plunges, we’re asking Greater Sudbury youth to participate in our 2021 Polar Plunge contest: a poster contest for elementary school students and a video contest for secondary school students.

Video Contest

Students in Sudbury aged 13 to 19 are encouraged to create a 30-second video promoting awareness of Special Olympics in our community focusing on the Polar Plunge event – which will be used to promote the 2022 Polar Plunge.

 Video Contest Guidelines
  • Videos can be anywhere from 20-30 seconds in length
  • Each video must portray a positive message surrounding the Special Olympics – specifically the Polar Plunge
  • Students will upload the videos to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, tag @sudburypolice and use the hashtag #SudburyPlunge2021
  • Students may work individually or in groups for submissions while adhering to the current legislative Orders and Public Health guidelines
  • Please be mindful of copyright information when creating your videos

  • Most of all, be creative!

 

 Video Contest Prizes
  • 1st Prize: $150 Amazon gift card & Sudbury Wolves Jersey
  • 2nd Prize: $100 Amazon gift card

  • 3rd Prize: $50 Amazon gift card

 

 Video Contest Submission
  • Please make sure you upload your video to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram by Monday February 22nd, 2021. Don’t forget to tag @sudburypolice and use #SudburyPlunge2021 on your submission.
  • The winning videos will be used in the promotion of the 2022 Polar Plunge event.

Poster Contest

Students in Sudbury aged 6 to 12 are encouraged to create a poster depicting the Polar Bear Mascot named “Plungee the Bear”. The posters will be used to promote awareness of Special Olympics in our community.

 Poster Contest Guidelines
  • Poster must be drawn on 8 1/2” x 11” white paper horizontally
  • Each poster must portray “Plungee” the polar bear mascot (please see the image as an example)
  • Students may use crayons, paint, coloured pencils or markers. No highlighters, photos or computer graphics are permitted.
  • Students must work on posters individually, otherwise posters will be disqualified.
  • Only original artwork will be accepted (i.e. no trade-marked or copyright materials).

 

 Poster Contest Prizes
  • 1st Prize: $100 gift card Toppers Pizza, $30 gift card to Dairy Queen & Sudbury Wolves Hockey Stick used by Sudbury Wolves player Owen Gilhula #51
  • 2nd Prize: $75 gift card Toppers Pizza & $25 gift card to Dairy Queen
  • 3rd Prize: $50 gift card Toppers Pizza & $20 gift card to Dairy Queen

 

 Poster Contest Submission
  • Please scan and email your poster to: polar.plunge@gsps.ca by Monday February 22nd, 2021.
  • Please include the student’s name, age, school, teacher’s name, Parent/Guardian’s name and contact number.
  • Winners will be contacted for the original poster to be used for the 2022 Polar Plunge Poster.
  • The first 50 entries will win a voucher for a Personal Pepperoni Pizza courtesy of Toppers Pizza and a voucher for a small cone from Dairy Queen (Regent St. location)
