Police investigating threat at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School

UPDATE

As a result of the investigation into the threats complaint at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, officers have identified the individual believed to be responsible for the message written in a bathroom in the school.

The student has been arrested and charged with Uttering Threats and Mischief. Based on prior involvement under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), the youth has been released on an undertaking with a court date of July 4, 2024.

The identity of the youth is protected under the YCJA, therefore no further information related to the youth will be provided.

We would like to thank the students, staff and administration of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School for the cooperation throughout this matter.

ORIGINAL

Just before 1:00 p.m. on May 30, 2024, officers were dispatched to Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School in relation to a threats complaint.

Prior to police being called, a student located a message written in a bathroom at the school warning of a school shooting on May 31. The student notified administration who contacted police.

Officers are actively investigating the matter to determine the credibility of the threat. Officers are working with administration, staff and students to conduct a thorough investigation. The safety of students, staff and our community is our top priority.

There will be an increased visible police presence at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School on Friday, May 31, 2024, to ensure public safety and to support students and staff.
