Just after 2:00 a.m. this morning, April 3rd 2024, Greater Sudbury Police Service and Greater Sudbury Fire Services were dispatched to the area of the Food Basics and the House of Kin on Regent Street in relation to a dumpster that was on fire. While on route, a second call was received advising that a man had been discovered in the same area, having sustained severe burns to his body. The man was rushed to the hospital and is currently in serious condition.
Detectives of our Criminal Investigations Division are working in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause of the fire.
The investigation remains ongoing as Officers will be in the area canvassing for video surveillance. Greater Sudbury Police Service is asking anyone that may have witnessed or had been in the area at the time of the fire to come forward.
