Shortly after 11:35 p.m. last night, August 18, 2022, we received two Weapons complaints involving the same vehicle and the same individuals.
Information provided was that a dark-coloured SUV was being driven in the area of Walnut Street and Lorne Street when one of the individuals inside the vehicle used a pellet gun to shoot a man walking in the area. Shortly after the first call, a second call, similar in nature was a received indicating that another man had been shot with a pellet gun by an individual inside of a dark-coloured SUV in the area of Whittaker Street and Haig Street.
Both men sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incidents.
Officers located a vehicle matching the description provided in the area of Lorne Street. The vehicle was being driven erratically and at a high rate of speed. Out of a concern for Public Safety, Officers did not pursue the vehicle, however, the vehicle was located in the area of Walnut Street where Officers conducted a traffic stop.
Youths matching the descriptions provided were found inside the vehicle, as well as, three firearms in plain sight.
A 17 year old boy was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2
- Assault with a Weapon
- Discharge Air Gun or Pistol with Intent
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
A 16 year old boy was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2
- Assault with a Weapon
- Discharge an Air Gun or Pistol with Intent
The 17 year old boy was held overnight in Police custody in order to attend Bail Court today, August 19, 2022 to answer to the charges. The 16 year old boy was released on an Undertaking with a First Appearance Court date of October 26, 2022. Neither of their names can be provided under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
