UPDATE 3

Around 9:30 p.m. Members of our Emergency Response Unit located and arrested 32 year old Kyle Smith in the area of Falconbridge Road.

 

32 year old Edgar “Kyle Smith” has been charged with the following under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • First Degree Murder
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Collision
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order

 

He will be held in Police custody overnight in order to attend Bail Court on September 10, 2021.

 

We would like to thank to extend our gratitude to our Officers for bringing this dangerous offender to justice and for holding him accountable for the vicious attack that claimed the life of a 30 year old man on September 7, 2021. Our deepest condolences go out to the man’s family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this very difficult and emotional time. We would also like to thank our community members for your assistance with this matter.

 

UPDATE 2

Around 5:05 p.m. this evening, September 9, 2021, we received a call regarding a Robbery that had just taken place at a convenience store on Falconbridge Road. Information provided was that two individuals entered the convenience store, threatened the employee, pepper sprayed multiple people inside the store and stole various items before fleeing the area on foot prior to police arrival.

 

Three individuals were transported to hospital with minor injuries as a result of being pepper sprayed.

 

Members of Patrol Operations and our Emergency Response Unit – Canine Unit arrived in the area and began a K9 track for the two individuals. As a result of the track, the items that were stolen were recovered and the 20 year old woman believed to be involved in the Robbery was located on Donwood Avenue. She was arrested without incident and transported to Police headquarters. She has been charged with Robbery with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose in relation to this matter. Her name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the Court process.

 

The woman is connected to Wanted party Kyle Smith who was seen in the area at the time of the Robbery. Kyle Smith is still at large and we are actively looking for him. Anyone with information related to his whereabouts is asked to contact Police immediately. Community members are asked to be on the lookout for Kyle Smith and are reminded to lock your doors, as well as, any outbuildings on your property as he is actively evading Police. Kyle Smith is dangerous and should not be approached. Please call Police immediately if you see him.

 

UPDATE

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division have identified the man believed to be responsible for the violent attack.

 

An Arrest Warrant has been issued for 32 year old Edgar “Kyle” Smith (image attached) for the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Collision
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order

 

Anyone with information related to Kyle’s whereabouts is asked to contact Police immediately and community members are reminded not to approach Kyle if you see him.

 

This is an ongoing Homicide investigation. This is believed to be an isolated and targeted incident as the two involved individuals are believed to be known to each other. We do not believe that there is any danger to the general Public.

 

ORIGINAL

Around 2:30 a.m. this morning, September 7, 2021, we received a call regarding a Collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Lasalle Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue. The driver of the involved vehicle fled the scene in the vehicle prior to Police arrival. The 30 year old pedestrian was transported to hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services with critical injuries. Unfortunately he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

 

Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. His name will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes.

 

Through the investigation it has been determined that the driver of the vehicle and the 30 year old man were involved in an altercation in the parking lot of the gas station at the corner of Lasalle Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue prior to the collision. It is believed that the 30 year old man sustained a stab wound prior to being intentionally run over with the vehicle.

 

The involved vehicle was located unoccupied a short distance away. The driver of the vehicle is described as being White, around 6’1” tall, with a medium build and brownish red hair.

 

Officers from our Traffic Management Unit, Patrol Operations and Detectives from our Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate this matter.
