Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on November 11, 2021, we received a call regarding a Weapons Complaint on Mountain Street in Greater Sudbury. Information provided was that a man was seen pointing what was described as a handgun at another person.
Officers arrived in the area and located a man matching the description of the potentially armed party walking with a woman on Mountain Street.
Both individuals were placed under investigative detention and when the man was asked to identify himself, he provided a false name. Officers were able to identify both the man and the woman who were wanted on multiple outstanding Arrest Warrants. Both individuals were placed under arrest and searched, however a firearm was not located at the time.
The 29 year old woman was released on an Undertaking in relation to the outstanding Arrest Warrants as she had no involvement in the Weapons Complaint.
Members of our Emergency Response Unit set up containment on a residence on Mountain Street while Detectives from our Criminal Investigation Division applied for a Search Warrant of the residence as there was reason to believe that the man had left the potential firearm inside of the residence
While Officers were on scene awaiting the Search Warrant, a second man exited the residence and was placed under arrest as he was also wanted on outstanding Arrest Warrants. The 33 year old man was transported to Police Headquarters where he was held in custody until he was able to attend Bail Court.
Upon being granted the Search Warrant, Detectives from our CID with the assistance of our ERU executed the Search Warrant on the residence and located two replica handguns.
33 year old Justin Christensen, the man originally seen with the handgun, has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Breach of Release Order
He was held in custody overnight and will be attending Bail Court today, November 12, 2021 to answer to the charges.
