The Greater Sudbury Police Service is considered to be one of the Big 12 Police Services in Ontario, but we pride ourselves in being a close-knit, small town Police Service focused on Community Safety and Well-being. Our Members are our most valued resource.
If you'd like to learn more about a Policing career with the Greater Sudbury Police Service, our Women in Policing - Career Information Night will be held on October 26th, 2022.
Leading up to our Women in Policing event, we’d like to introduce you to some of the amazing women of our GSPS family. Meet Auxiliary Constable Marina Leblanc:
Q: What’s a typical day like in your role?
A: Auxiliary officers are volunteers that assist with community events, assist officers on ride-alongs and provide additional support in the event of a major emergency. A typical shift at a community event involves crowd management, patrolling to ensure safety and having conversations with members of the public.
Q: What inspired you to become an Auxiliary Officer? Why did you choose GSPS?
A: Growing up in Sudbury, I always felt safe. I want other people to feel safe in our community as well which is what first drew me into policing.
Q: Why do you love doing what you do?
A: I love being an Auxiliary Constable because it has allowed me to learn so much about policing. Through the Auxiliary Unit, I’ve gotten to work with many units of GSPS and I’ve been able to attend many different types of events.
Q: What advice would you give to a young woman aspiring to join the policing profession/law enforcement field?
A: I would recommend getting to know people that work in the profession and learning what you can from them. I have been very lucky to have so many wonderful mentors that have helped me in my career. I encourage you to attend this event, introduce yourself and have conversations with the officers.
