Shortly before 1:40 p.m. on August 28, 2024, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received 9-1-1 calls reporting that a group of teens were throwing rocks onto Maley Drive from a large rock cut. While the complaints were coming in, a collision involving a motorcycle was reported in the west bound lanes as the driver of the motorcycle lost control and entered the ditch.

The investigation revealed that there were numerous rocks and small boulders on the roadway in the exact area where the collision took place and witnesses believed that the driver of the motorcycle was struck with a rock causing the collision. 

The driver of the motorcycle suffered significant injuries as a result of the incident and was transported to the hospital by Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services.

The youths responsible for throwing the rocks have not been identified. Witnesses described two of the youths involved as being male, one with shoulder-length red hair and freckles wearing a black hoody and black jogging pants and the other wearing a white or grey hoody at the time of the incident.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
